1 - How was God manifested in the beginning?

  • In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

  • For this is what the Lord says — he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited — he says: “I am the Lord, and there is no other. . .
I, the Lord, speak the truth; I declare what is right.

2 - How did God become known to men?

  • The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

  • For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made.

  • In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.

3 - What is the nature of God?

  • Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.

  • For this is what the high and exalted One says—he who lives forever, whose name is holy: “I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.

  • God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.

  • God is love.
This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.

4 - What does God ask of man?

  • what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul,

  • Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.
And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

  • And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.

5 - Can the natural man know the ways of God?

  • The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.

  • “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

6 - What separates man from God?

  • But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.

  • If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened;

  • whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.

  • whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.

7 - What is sin?

  • All wrongdoing is sin

  • everything that does not come from faith is sin.

  • For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly.
All these evils come from inside and defile a person.

  • See to it. . . that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.

8 - Are all men sinners?

  • for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

  • The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.
All have turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.

  • We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way;

  • If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.

9 - What is the consequence of sin?

  • Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned

  • The one who sins is the one who will die.

  • Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

  • For the wages of sin is death

  • whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.

10 - What is the attitude of God towards the sinner and his sin?

  • As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live.

  • The Lord . . . is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

  • Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out.

  • God . . . now he commands all people everywhere to repent.

11 - What has God done to settle the question of sin?

  • For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

  • But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

  • Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.

  • For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

12 - What must I do to be saved?

  • Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.

  • Jésus said : “I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.”

  • If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

  • God saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy.

13 - Why did Christ die to save us?

  • Jésus-Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness.

  • without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

  • For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed . . . but with the precious blood of Christ.

  • Christ has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.

  • For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.

  • God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ.

14 - Is there another way to be saved?

  • It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, . . . Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.

  • Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

  • God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people.

15 - Is it possible to have the assurance of forgiveness of one's sins?

  • Jesus our Lord. He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.

  • After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

  • All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.

  • as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

  • God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. . . I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

16 - What does Jesus Christ give to those who believe in him?

a. Forgiveness of sins; Peace with God.

  • Through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses.

  • Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

  • Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.

b. Eternal life.

  • And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

  • Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.

c. The possibility of becoming a child of God.

  • Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God — children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

  • But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.
Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.”

d. A new life.

  • Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

  • God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

  • Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

17 - How can we nurture this new life?

  • Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

  • Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.

  • Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

  • Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

  • All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

18 - What can help the believer in his daily life?

a. Daily reading of the Word of God.

  • Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

  • Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

  • For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.

b. Prayer.

  • Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.

  • Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

  • Jésus said: if you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

  • And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

  • If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt.

  • Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

c. The presence of the Holy Spirit.

  • Jésus said: I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth.

  • Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

  • But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

d. The praise and service of God.

  • let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.
And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

  • And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

  • Stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

e. Faith in Christ to have victory over sin and temptation.

  • Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

  • No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

  • This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.

  • Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

  • If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

f. The testimony.

  • “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”

  • You will be my witnesses

  • Return home and tell how much God has done for you.

  • Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.

  • Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.

19 - What about the future?

a. What happens to the believer immediately after his death?

  • Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

  • For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.
We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.

b. Is the return of Christ certain?

  • My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

  • For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.

  • But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,

  • This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.

20 - Solemn warnings

  • Jésus said : do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. 5 But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him.

  • Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,

  • So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.

  • Jésus said : there is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; the very words I have spoken will condemn them at the last day.

  • I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.

21 - The Saviour's invitation

  • Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

  • Jésus said : I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
whoever comes to me I will never drive away.

  • Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.
